This six weeks course introduces students to a variety of ways to analyze and interpret text for performance. Based in Dr. Katie Turner's years of experience teaching Script Analysis at SDSU and her training in the Michael Chekhov technique, this teaches students how to mine scripts for important clues and also introduces them to techniques for beginning to analyze text for auditions and performance. At the end of this class, students will be able to: * Analyze monologues, scenes, plays, and screenplays for tone, imagery, punctuation, structure, and other important clues for performances * Quickly interpret sides for auditions and callbacks * Apply different strategies for imaginatively embodying text for performance, useful for preparing auditions, rehearsal, and performance on stage or screen To be followed by Intermediate Acting 2: Approaches to Character in November This class is open to actors of all levels. Email Katie Turner, dr.katie@actors-place.com Saturdays 2-4:30pm, September 12-October 17 ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Katie Turner, founder of The Actor’s Place, is a veteran actor, director, and educator, with more than 25 years of experience as a theatre artist. She also holds a BA, MA, and PhD in Theatre and currently is on the faculty of San Diego State University’s School of Theatre, Television, and Film, where he also serves as the Associate Director. She is trained in the Meisner and Chekhov techniques, having completed the 2-year comprehensive training program with the Meisner/Chekhov Integrated training studio and having continued her studies in the years since. She is a Designated Meisner Teacher through the Meisner Institute and is completing a teaching certification in the Michael Chekhov technique through the Michael Chekhov Association. Katie believes that the foundations of all good acting are spontaneity, imagination, and play. She also believes in creating a supporting and safe environment where everyone can learn. If you cannot attend, please cancel at your earliest convenience so someone else may take your place. Deposits are non-refundable. Payments made beyond the deposit can be refunded up to 48 hours before a class begins but not after. Please arrive a little early so that class may begin on time.
