About the Course
New to acting or just want to strengthen your foundational skills? This class is for you! In this 6 week course, students will learn the foundations of acting in a welcoming and supportive environment. Through exercises based in improvisational acting and the Meisner and Chekhov acting techniques, students will work on these key skills essential to any successful actor:
* Listening and responding in a truthful and active way
* Being fully present and in the moment
* Developing strong concentration and focus
* Building a strong imagination
* Starting to gain confidence in presenting work to others
This class can be taken by anyone at any level. Those who have taken Beginning Acting 2 but not this course are also welcome and will benefit from the exercises presented.

Dr. Katie Turner

Dr. Turner is the Associate Director of the School of Theatre, Television, and Film at San Diego State University, where she teaches acting, history, and literature courses. She won the Outstanding Faculty Award at SDSU in 2020, 2023, and 2024.
